Public domain images to represent the outside of your dungeon. Many of these have appeared on my blog before but I wanted to compile them all to make it easier for you to use them and for me to add to the collection.
I always try to work with lossless art files because I hate the idea of losing detail to compression. Unfortunately that leads to bigger files. Unfortunate, because I also want to make these useful and accessible and downloading a huge file is a hurdle. But these dungeon entrances seem the kind of image you might want more detail than even for an NPC portrait, so I just did my best to keep all of the 46 files under 1 MB.
You can find the link to the compilation here and on my new Public Domain Art Page.

Serendipity XXI
I spent many hours the last few days looking for good images to make into silhouettes, no luck. But I did find these pics. These are all public domain, use them or lose them.
Got a game running in a WWI setting, here's a schematic of an armored car,
a couple submarines,
and this photo of an even bigger armored car.
I saw this on OBI Scrabbook blog. Its dual entrances seem full of possibilities.
I don't know what fusee arrows are. Flares?
Various scaling ladders.
Britons in Coracles.
And a few images that could be of a medieval city.
p.s. This has nothing to do with gaming, but I have to share. I found out yesterday that two outside consultants have been hired to visit and evaluate my workplace. My boss is freaked, but this is so absurd in the current context of where I work, that I wasn't stressed-- I laughed out loud and said something about Initech. I forgot to ask if they were named Bob. Oh well, don't worry about me, I'm a people person.

Rocky Landmarks
I started systematically going back through my old files trying organize and see if I missed any silhouettes opportunities. I found these pictures from an old book on rock climbing in Great Britain that I never did anything with. I thought they might be useful if you are doing a point crawl and want to give layers a visual sense of a lair or just a local landmark. Like these map insets.
Update: Found another one somewhere else. I guess I like pictures of rocks. Also, a picture of Fingal's Cave which is more a dungeon entrance than landmark, but could be both:
These are all public domain, use them as you wish.
