Canopic Kiss

How about the opposite of my last post's idea of a spell.

Canopic Kiss
With a kiss a mage "hides" a bit of lifeforce with the kissed (1 hitpoint).  The mage may kiss as many individuals as s/he has lifeforce (hitpoints).  As long as the kissed remain alive the mage will be unkillable.  If wounded, the kissed will go into a coma at the last bit of lifeforce (1 hitpoint left).  The mage will know whether any of the kissed are living, dead, or in a coma, but not necessarily where they are.

What level would you make this?

  1. I would give it a maximum duration of... a week per caster level, and make it a 6th level spell. A permanent, or longer lasting variant would be 9th level.

Also, I am unclear about the line starting "if wounded, the kissed..." if the kissed is wounded, or if the mage is wounded?

  2. I would agree with David, as it basically makes a less protected phylactery at virtually no casting cost, i.e. no special materials or process, and virtually instant casting time, thus making it quite powerful.

Interesting spell, by the way. I find it even more useful as a dm/npc/adventure tool. Someone your character knows drops into a coma and you don't know why. After doing some sort of divinitory magic, you find this weird enchantment.

  3. What happens if two people cast this on each other?

  4. Thanks folks for the comments.

@David: I was thinking the kissed, so you get, as migellito suggests, regular folks going into comas and you aren't sure why.

@migellito: I think your right, probably more interesting as npc sorcery. Maybe I'll have some strange dude kiss my player's characters.

@C'nor: well, it would just place one hit point in that person as normal, I suppose, unless you have an idea for something more sinister.

  5. I was thinking it would really mess things up, to the point where all damage taken by either one of them is deal to the other.

  6. Inverted, the spell could be a trap/curse cast by a third party. The Kissee is "unkillable", remaining at 1 HP as any additional damage is funneled to the Kisser.

Imagine cast by a cuckold upon the lover of his faithless wife before he takes his revenge upon her.

    Oh, 5th level.

  7. Interesting take anonymous, and that "feels" like what I imagine medieval witchcraft to be. Thanks.
