And Merry Christmas! My boss just gave me the D&D animated series DVD as a gift. I'm going to go watch some and fondly remember when our hobby was mainstream.
That image...I recognise it, is it from that picture book with projected concepts of human evolution? Also contains paintings of mankind bred into huge food-beasts?
played with Mandy and her siblings with her Mom and Auntie watching (didn't relish that) and used a man of wounds.
Mom and auntie made the usual noises "oh my gosh, it's so complicated. How do you remember all this? you do it all in your head? and the dice?" etc.
Anyway, I had a Man of Wounds stagger out of the frost witch's cave. AS SOON AS HE CAME OUT, auntie says "pull the swords out!"
They ignored her, of course, and are getting their asses handed to them for a few rounds. Then Mandy's brother rolled a 20 to shield bash the MOW into a wall--which, since it was a 20 AND a knockback, I ruled managed to knock one of the swords loose "visibly weakening" the creature.
They figured it out, though the Man still managed to kill Mandy's brother.
@Andrew, I got if off an image board, but yeah I think it's from Dougal Dixon's "Man After Man." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_After_Man:_An_Anthropology_of_the_Future
I had the book about animals evolved "After Man" as a kid and looooooooved it. Awesome book.
@Zak: That's awesome. You seem to keep giving me good examples of how this game might be manageable by a broader audience then I sometimes think. Thanks.
Man After Man, that's it! That is one mind-bending book, it's like the pictorial equivalent of Stapledon's "Last And First Men", gave me some really creepy feelings when I stumbled across that in Braintree library. Thanks!
Merry Christmas! Sounds like a great way to spend the day!
ReplyDeleteThat card is a freakish thing of beauty. Getting ready for A Christmas Story here!
ReplyDeleteWild Card!!! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHaha, great card! Hope you have a good one. :D
ReplyDeleteAwww, that card is so cute. After a few (thousand) generations the hunter and prey become best of buddies, it's an evolutionary holiday miracle.

If only they'd listened to Auntie...

ReplyDeleteWow, what a nice boss!
ReplyDeleteEven though I was a young adolescent when the D&D cartoon aired on television, I refused to watch it than, as I regarded it as "kid's stuff."
It's no longer mainstream, but it's an exciting, slightly polluted side-stream!
