Serendipity: searching books for nautical charts of islands to find a sweet illustration of an aztec sacrificial stone in a book about traveling the mediterranean.
Bonus points for the author name of Hezekiah Butterworth. Book here.
Apparently the stone is currently in the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico. Here is a pic.
I'd want to edit out the modern stuff in the background, but I thought I'd give it too you relatively unaltered. Public Domain.
I think I'll steal this for my CoC game.
ReplyDeleteThat's an inspiring image!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it. There is something unnervingly practical about that groove to allow blood run-off.
ReplyDeleteCould they sacrifice a good priest or two, to remove the curse?
ReplyDeleteAlso you seem to have approved and then forgotten about some of my posts like the one about shaped trees. What would happen if a culture couldn't use fire? Would they all be magical in some way? Adapt like the Drow? Once you've dealt with the physical aspects... How would food be cooked?
ReplyDeleteThey had two of these of display at the Getty Villa last year
